Lawmakers Reintroduce Legislation To Promote Fairness in Credit Union Examinations
Reps. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W. Va.) and Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) and Sens. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) reintroduced legislation on Monday that would promote fairness in credit union examinations.

The bills, H.R. 1553 and S. 727, are identical to one another and to legislation put forth by the same lawmakers during the previous session of Congress.  Read More

 
Floor ScheduleThe House will meet at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow to consider several bills under suspension of the rules. For the remainder of the week, the House will consider H.R. 1549, Helping Sick Americans Now Act as well as H.R. 527, the Responsible Helium Administration and Stewardship Act. The Senate will convene at 2 p.m. today to resume consideration of S. 743, the Marketplace Fairness Act. It is another busy week for credit unions on Capitol Hill with both chambers in session.  Debate on cyber security legislation in the House, and a number of hearings may help determine how Congress handles regulatory burden and housing finance reform.

A state legislative overview  was provided at the time of the Mountain West Credit Union Association Annual Meeting & Convention to inform member credit unions of the  key legislative activities the Mountain West Credit Union Association conducted on behalf of member credit unions to date during the 2013 Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming State Legislative Sessions.  This report is available for members only at the following link.

Floor Schedule
The House met at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday and considered legislation under suspension of the rules.  Two of these bills have financial services implications:  H.R. 749, the Eliminate Privacy Notice Confusion Act and H.R. 1035, which would require a study of voluntary community-based flood insurance options and how such options could be incorporated into the national flood insurance program.  Wednesday and the balance of the week, the House is expected to consider H.R. 890, the Preserving Work Requirements for Welfare Programs Act of 2013, and H.R. 803, the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act.  READ MORE

The House and the Senate are back in Washington this week.  The Senate returned on Monday and considered pending nominations.  On Tuesday, the Senate considered S. Res. 64, the funding resolution for Senate committees.  The House also returned on Monday and considered bills under suspension of the rules.  On Wednesday and the balance of the week, the House is considering the Department of Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act.  No votes are expected in the House on Friday.  READ MORE
