Senate Passes Wyoming Republican's Bill Letting States Tax Online Sales
The U.S. Senate sided with traditional retailers and financially strapped state and local governments Monday by passing a bill sponsored by Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., that would widely subject online shopping — for many, a largely tax-free frontier — to state sales taxes.

The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 69 to 27, receiving support from Republicans and Democrats alike. But opposition from some conservatives who view it as a tax increase will make it a tougher sell in the House. President Barack Obama has conveyed his support for the measure.  Read More

As over used as the phrase may be, a new law passed in the final days of the 2013 Wyoming legislative session certainly appears to be a win-win situation for Wyoming.

The new law, Senate File 118, concerns eminent domain -- the sometimes controversial practice of condemning private property for what is considered to be a larger public good. The practice is controversial because it's tantamount to seizing private property -- something that doesn't set well with most Americans, least of all folks in Wyoming.  Read More

 Mead Lauds Wyoming Legislature For Taking On Tough Issues
Gov. Matt Mead commended legislators for tackling tough issues during the general session that ended Wednesday afternoon.
Unfortunately, he noted, the lawmakers have been subject to threats as well as harsh criticism this year.  Unlike Congress, he said the legislators' decisions are based on the next generation "rather than the next election or whatever is popular."  Read More

The Wyoming Legislature plans to wrap up its general session Wednesday, which would mean ending on the 36th day of what was scheduled to be a 40-day session.

Senate President Tony Ross, R-Cheyenne, said Friday that the Legislature makes a practice of ending its general session early to save a few days in case they need more time in the 20-day budget sessions it holds every other year.  Read More

Wyoming Legislature Approves State Fuel Tax Hike
A 10-cent increase in the state fuel tax cleared its final vote in the Wyoming Senate on Thursday and now heads to Gov. Matt Mead for signing.

Mead has said he favors a tax hike as a means to create a steady revenue stream for highway and road repairs and construction. The state tax on gasoline and diesel would jump from 14 to 24 cents on July 1.

The Senate approved House Bill 69 on an 18-12 roll-call vote after a lively third debate. The legislation previously passed the House. Read More
