A Weekly Legislative Update From CUNA
The House and Senate This Week (01/21/2013)
With Inauguration festivities complete, both the House and the Senate are back in Washington this week. The Senate convenes today and will consider changes to the rules of the Senate for the 113th Congress. Filibuster reform is expected to be among the matters under consideration by the Senate this week. The House convenes today and will consider bills under suspension of the rules. Tomorrow, the House will consider legislation extending the debt limit for three months. The House is not expected to be in session on Thursday or Friday of this week. Next week, the House will be in recess, but the Senate is expected to be in session.
The committee process is slowly beginning. Tomorrow, the House Financial Services Committee will hold its organizational meeting. Senate committees are not able to organize until Senators are formally elected to the committees, which is expected to happen later this week.
